Apple Picking in Connecticut This September

Apple picking is one of the best things to do in Connecticut and the perfect activity to welcome in the Fall season. Beginning mid-September, Connecticut’s apple orchards are at their busiest. Many of these orchards and farms also offer other fall fun, including corn mazes, pumpkin picking, hayrides, apple cider, and apple cider donuts.

Looking for that perfect apple picking spot in Connecticut? Here are some of our favorite orchards to visit to enjoy apple picking with your family and friends and experience all that a New England orchard has to offer.

Lyman Orchards – Middlefield

Lyman Orchards have been around since 1741. The orchards cover over 1,100 acres of scenic farmland and are one of the most popular attractions in New England. Apple picking is available from mid-August to late October. The orchard also has a full farm market with signature bakery products, fresh-pressed apple cider, and other specialty foods from Connecticut and around New England.

They also have 3 award-winning golf courses, as well as annual events and a Corn Maze!

Belltown Hills Orchard – South Glastonbury

First established in 1910, Belltown now encompasses 155 acres of farmland and grows a wide variety of fruits and berries, including apples, blueberries, cherries, nectarines, peaches, pears, raspberries, grapes, strawberries, plums, and pumpkins. From mid-August into early November, their vast apple orchard offers over 24 varieties of apples for you to pick from.

Once you are done picking out fresh apples, stop by the farm market for a fresh-baked pie or apple cider donuts, or enjoy a fresh hot batch of their famous apple fritters for one of the concession stands.

Silverman’s Farm – Easton

This apple orchard and farm have been in service for over 100 years. Apple picking for 2021 is officially starting Saturday, August 14, 2021. Pick your favorite apples and try less-common varieties like Mutsu Crispin, Nittany, and Cameo as well.

The farm also has a petting zoo with all sorts of animals, including buffalo, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, fallow deer, emus, and long-horn cattle.

Holmberg Orchards and Wineries – Gales Ferry

This fourth-generation family-owned farm is located on 50 acres in the Thames River Valley. The orchard not only offers apples for picking, but also has a year-round farmers market and bakery, a corn maze, and tractor rides for kids. There are also several white wines, sparkling hard ciders, and fruit wines available to adults for tasting.

March Farm – Bethlehem

Located in the gorgeous rolling hills of Litchfield County, March Farm offers over 100 acres of pick-your-own fruits and berries. Pick Your Own Apples begins the first weekend of September. You can also find a farm market and bakery with regional food specialties and fresh baked goods, an animal yard, hiking trails, and a picnic pavilion.

Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard – Shelton

Pick-Your-Own apple season will begin September 11th at Beardsley’s. The farm bakery at the orchard also sells fresh pies, apple cider donuts, cookies, fruit bread, and more. On the weekends, you can get fermenting containers filled with fresh-pressed untreated cider to make your own hard cider.
