Celebrate Earth Day in Connecticut
With Earth Day coming up next month, the perfect excuse to take a springtime vacation is here! Connecticut is home to some amazing museums, nature centers, and other attractions that are perfect for celebrating our planet.
While visiting one of Delamar’s three locations throughout the state, you and your family can discover New England’s beauty from a luxurious home base. Here are some activities we are looking forward to for Earth Day this year:
Woodbury Earth Day
The Woodbury Earth Day in Woodbury is a great place to celebrate with live music, performances, and fun activities while supporting the community. Their Earth Day celebration has been held for over two decades and is always a great time for the whole family.
You will also be able to explore a variety of local exhibitors while trying some of the best food trucks in Connecticut. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 30th at Hollow Park.
Bruce Museum – Greenwich
The Bruce Museum is an excellent place to learn more about natural sciences with a focus on the region’s geology, paleontology, Ice Age, marine ecosystems, terrestrial ecosystems, and more. Visiting the Bruce Museum for Earth Day will offer a glimpse into the history and evolution of our planet through their fun and engaging permanent exhibition.
The Bruce Museum is currently constructing a contemporary wing to accommodate more exhibitions and display the museum’s permanent art collection.
Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride
If you have a love for outdoor activities, the Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride in New Haven is an exciting way to explore the local natural beauty, build the community, and support environmental projects. There are plenty of routes to choose from, including 60, 40, 20, and 12-mile rides as well as 2-mile family rides. If you prefer to hike instead, you can take a trail along the base of East Rock.
Over the last 13 years, the Rock to Rock Earth Day Ride has raised over $2 million in support of local environmental projects. This is the perfect way to spend Earth Day if you love the great outdoors and want to contribute to a bigger cause.
Mystic Aquarium
The Mystic Aquarium is a mesmerizing place to experience our ocean’s wildlife while learning about their ecosystems. Explore exhibits that house thousands of marine mammals, fish, invertebrates, and reptiles, or view beluga whales from the largest outdoor beluga whale exhibit in the United States.
Throughout the month of April, they will be hosting a series of events where you can learn how scientists conduct biological research, participate in coastal cleanups, and embark on educational hikes.
Housatonic Meadows State Park
The Housatonic Meadows State Park in Sharon is the perfect place to spend Earth Day if you want to hike, fish, or just enjoy being outdoors. Venture through the rugged hills of the Northwestern uplands or take a canoe out on the river for a scenic view of the landscape. If you are feeling extra adventurous, spend a night at their campsite under the pines for a true nature experience!
