Family-Friendly Activities around Delamar Southport

In between the soaking up the sea and the quintessential luxuries of a DELAMAR getaway, we encourage you to take some time to explore Southport’s many family-friendly attractions. With that in mind, here are three of our favorite spots for the young and young-at-heart, each just a short jaunt from the DELAMAR Southport.

The Adventure Park at the Discovery Museum

(4450 Park Ave, Bridgeport, CT)

A fine choice for couples and families, the Adventure Park lifts you off the ground for some treetop-level thrills. Its 13 canopy trails feature more than 180 platforms, exhilarating high-rope bridges, and zip-line traverses. There’s something for everybody here, with courses at beginner, intermediate, and expert levels.

Another popular attraction? The after-hours Glow in the Park experience, which lights up the treetop trails for a truly one-of-a-kind “night out.”

Stepping Stones Museum for Children

(303 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT)

For the under-10 set, this hands-on, LEED-certified museum gets kids thinking with a range of exhibits for all ages.

At the Energy Lab, young scientists get wet and wild in a working lab, as they awaken their curiosity for the science of energy. Express Yourself, a social-emotional learning exhibit, helps kids acquire the communication skills they need for our complex world. And in Tot Town, even the littlest visitors can get inspired through play – play that stokes their imaginative sparks and fosters early learning. There are many other exhibits, as well, including the Color Coaster, a 27-foot kinetic sculpture, and the Light Gallery, an exploration of colorful LED displays about our community.

The Maritime Aquarium

(10 North Water Street, Norwalk, CT)

For more than three decades, the Maritime Aquarium has offered wonderful interpretations of the freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems of our Long Island Sound watershed.

The better part of 3,000 creatures, representing some 300 species, call the aquarium home – everything from gray tree frogs, eastern oysters, and mantis shrimp, to harbor seals and green sea turtles. Some representatives from other ecosystems around the world, including giant Pacific octopus and bearded dragons, are also on display. The Maritime Aquarium’s exhibits include interactive options, as well, including the Shark & Ray Touch Pool and the “Jiggle a Jelly” experience (stroke gentle moon jellies).

From shark tanks to cheese tastings, from jellyfish to canopy ziplines, Southport promises an attraction-rich and kid-friendly getaway. We look forward to welcoming you, whether you’re traveling solo, vacationing à deux, or escaping with the whole family!
