Guide to “Revenge Travel” to Connecticut this Summer
During the unprecedented global shutdown this past year, many of us had to cancel or postpone vacations, gatherings, weddings, and other important life events. As the vaccine rollout continues, travel is swiftly coming back, and people are ready to “revenge travel” and make up for a year spent social distancing at home.
What is Revenge Travel?
While the term may sound silly, revenge travel refers to the current surge in domestic and international travel as restrictions ease, things open up, and it becomes safer to travel. It’s also a retaliation against COVID-19 and an opportunity to take back our lives, including travel.
Travel experts expect that Americans will make up for lost time by booking more trips than they did before coronavirus, spending more money, and will be less inclined to cancel plans.
As some people slowly come out of their COVID-19 pandemic shells, many others will be quick to plan their summer trips. Don’t wait till the last minute to book or you may not end up getting the hotel or flight you want and will likely end up paying more money.
It’s also likely that your colleagues are also planning their summer vacations. So don’t risk waiting until the last minute to request time off, only to be told that you can’t take your preferred dates off.
Embrace Your PTO Days
Research suggests that drawing a line between our professional and personal life is crucial for our mental health and wellbeing. Many people have found that working from home this past year has blurred the line between personal life and work. You may have found yourself working late into the evening or answering emails over the weekend. However, this can and will eventually lead to burnout. Do NOT let your PTO days roll over or expire, and don’t feel guilty about using vacation days to travel.
Book yourself a summer vacation to reduce work fatigue and give yourself a break you need and deserve. Better yet, combine your PTO with remote working to enjoy even more time away from home.
Spend Your Vacation Dollars Wisely
Since you might be spending more money on travel, make sure it’s spent on activities, flights, and hotels that you will enjoy. Research the state, city, or town you’re interested in visiting for what sort of activities are available. Are you looking for somewhere with great nightlife or a relaxing beach getaway? Or maybe you want to hike and explore state parks? Figure out what you enjoy most and decide on a destination.
Spend some extra money to travel in comfort. If you want some extra space, the price difference between a Main Cabin Economy ticket and an upgraded Main Cabin Premium ticket can be small, and well worth the extra price.
