It is home to Grand Rapids, voted Beer City USA in national polls and the Best Beer Scene by USA Today readers. Located a few hours north of Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Michigan has also become a nationally recognized hotbed for craft brewing. There are more than a dozen breweries in the immediate Traverse City area. Visitors can enjoy a local brew while taking in expansive views of the Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Michigan.

Situated in a century-old candy factory, this award-winning brewery is one of the top producers of craft beer in Michigan. With a focus on conservation and preserving the environment, North Peak brews their beer using as few raw materials as possible and by reducing waste. They also serve artisan pizzas, steaks, ribs, sandwiches, fresh fish, salads, and soups, and have a seasonal deck with entertainment.

Located in the SoFo District (South of Fourteenth) of downtown Traverse City, Right Brain Brewery focuses on beers that are made with only whole ingredients, like asparagus, cherry pie, pig parts, and pecan pies. Along with 20 beers on tap, the pub is filled with local art, arcade games, and board games.

Located on over 10 acres of land, this rural brewery, taproom, and MAEAP certified farm produce culinary-inspired brews in an environmentally responsible, sustainable way. Using an innovative water capture system, the brewery reclaims over 230,000 gallons of water from beer manufacturing and reuses it as irrigation and fertilization for the farm crops. Stop by their taproom to sample beers made from home-grown ingredients and try some of their locally-made snacks and sodas.

Situated in a cozy, old 1927 train depot, Filling Station is a family-owned business that focuses on serving the highest quality of hand-crafted brews. The microbrewery has a rotating list of 15-20 craft beer, sours, and ciders that pair flawlessly with their wood-fired flatbread pizzas and fresh salads.

Opened in 1977, Mackinaw Brewing is a local favorite for beer lovers and families. Besides their delicious six hand-crafted microbrews, the menu features smoked meats, local fish & daily specials, salads, and sandwiches.

Located on Old Mission Peninsula in a 19th-century historic mansion, Jolly Pumpkin is a micro-brewery and distillery that produces all of the spirits and most of the beers that are served on-premise. Comments Off on Our List of the Best Craft Breweries in Connecticut In our previous blog, we discussed the history of craft beer and shared some of our favorite breweries in Connecticut. But there were so many great options across the state, we couldn’t fit them all on one list.
Here are more of our favorite breweries across Connecticut, all near one of our relaxing Delamar locations.
1) Brewery Legitimus – New Hartford, CT

Located in the former Waring factory building, this brewery and taproom offer high quality, innovative, and traditional Belgian and American style ales as well as lagers. The 7,000 square foot space is the perfect place to spread out and hang out with friends. They also a dog-friendly patio with tons of seating options.
2) Connecticut Valley Brewing Company – Windsor, CT

Located just a quick drive from the beautiful Connecticut River, Connecticut Valley Brewing Company has been serving Hartford since 2018. The extensive beer menu includes everything from American Lagers, Indian Pale Ales, Stouts, and Berliner Weisee’s to spiked smoothies and seltzers. The brewery regularly hosts food trucks, live bands, and even bingo nights!
3) City Steam Brewery – Hartford, CT

Set in a 19th-century brownstone designed by the great H.H. Richardson, City Steam Brewery stands as one of Hartford’s most happening hotspots: live standup, courtesy of its Brew HaHa Comedy Club, and a dozen+ craft beers are on tap – Naughty Nurse IPA, Blonde on Blonde Pale Ale, and others – and perfectly complement an extensive food menu.
4) Five Churches Brewing – New Britain, CT

Love pizza as much as you love beer? Located in an old coat factory roughly between the towers of five churches, this local favorite offers a relaxed taproom atmosphere for everyone to come and enjoy some craft beer and delicious pizza from their wood-fired oven. The brewery typically serves 12 beers on tap including experimental varieties. Be sure to try out the brewery’s flagship IPA “Pew Pew” with notes of tropical fruit and citrus.
5) Alvarium Beer Company – New Britain, CT

Alvarium Beer Company is New Britain’s first craft brewery and taproom to open in over 70 years. Taking its lead from New Britain’s Beehive City nickname (“Alvarium” is Latin for “hive”), the founders have added beautifully crafted beehive touches all around. The brewery features a large taproom with an outdoor patio, games, shuffleboard, and a “Ten Ton Bar” made of two steel I-beams, an LED-backlit tap system, custom lighting fixtures, and an open brewing area. Your furry friends are welcome inside and on the patio.
6) Tribus Beer Company – New Milford, CT

Founded in 2018 by three industry veterans, Tribus is Milford’s first brewery and taproom. The brewery features a large bar, loads of seating, TV’s and games, as well as rotating food trucks. Grab your friends and try their world-class brews in a fun, relaxing environment.
7) Counter Weight Brewing Company – Hamden, CT

This small, two-floor brewery features two taprooms and offers everything from rustic Belgian ales and German lagers to American IPA’s. The brewery has regular events and food trucks, making it the perfect place to come hang out with your friends, talk, and enjoy a glass of beer.
8) Fairfield Craft Ales – Stratford, CT

After tapping into their savings and a successful Kickstarter campaign, the owners of Fairfield Craft opened the brewery in July of 2016. Since then, they have been serving 12 music-inspired beers in a cozy and laid-back atmosphere.
The brewery also has trivia every Thursday, as well as regular live music events.
9) Thomas Hooker Brewing Company – Bloomfield, CT

Located in Bloomfield, this award-winning brewery uses offers thirteen unique beers (8 ales and 5 lagers) that are made locally using quality local ingredients. The brewery and visitor center feature a tasting room, outdoor patio, gift shop, and a pizza kitchen that offers pizza, salads, nachos, wings, and more.
10) Back East Brewing Company – Bloomfield, CT

Founded in July 2012 by two cousins with a passion for beer, Black East craft beers are distributed throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts on draft and in cans. Visit their small, but state-of-the-art taproom to sample hand-crafted locally made beers.
